Some Much-Needed Progress on Eads St
Level of Effort: 5 minutes, at home in your PJs
Deadline: Thu 12/8 11:59pm

The transformation of Eads Street into an active transportation corridor has been slow and steady over the last decade.  Beginning with the tactical addition of separated bike lanes with paint and sticks as part of repaving by the county, and continuing with redevelopment and capital projects, the experience for people walking, scooting, and biking has been improving over time providing an important north-south artery.

That progress will continue as part of the Crystal Towers 3 redevelopment now going through approvals, but with some important feedback from you and other supporters, it can go even faster.  A mid-block pedestrian crossing to access the new retail being proposed would be of great benefit for those on foot and additional upgrades to the existing bike lanes to achieve full protection would make a huge difference for people on bikes & scooters. The residential bike parking should be able to accommodate some cargo bikes or other large bikes that don't fit in a wall-mount or double-stacked bike rack.

Transportation, Parking, and Loading
Great to see at-grade bike parking, but it needs direct access to the pedestrian alley. The curb protection for the southbound bike lane should extend the entire length of the site. A mid-block crossing of Eads should be added to provide safe & more direct pedestrian access from the Marriott / Underground / the 10A bus stop, etc. The secure bike parking should ensure that 10% of the parking can accommodate larger bikes (like cargo bikes) that do not fit in a stacked or wall-mounted rack.

Extending the curb protection for the southbound Eads St protected bike lane beyond the project's frontage to reach 18th Street (& creating a protected intersection corner at 18th) would be a worthy off-site transportation community benefit if bonus density needs to be earned. So would upgrading the protection on the east side of the street on this block.
